Description (have a look at the blogpost also)

This prototype uses the canvas-tag currently not implemented in Internet Explorer webbrowsers. Explorercanvas (link) is used to emulate canvas-tag behaviour in Internet Explorer however this is very slow. Please consider using Firefox (link) Opera (link) or possibly Safari (link) to view this prototype.

After the page is loaded a cube shaped galaxy rotates around the Y axis. The rotation axis of the continuous rotation can be changed by selecting a different axis. Continuous rotation can be deactivated by selecting "None".

There are two different galaxy types available: a cubic galaxy randomly creates stars inside a cube. The number of stars can be modified with the slider. A spiral galaxy can be created by selecting the "Spiral galaxy" ratio button. The galaxy can be modified by changing the number of stars, the number of arms and the radius of the spiral.

Starlanes are connections betweens stars and show a means of transportation from one star to another possibly through a wormhole or jumpgate. In this implementation they connect stars only at random.

With the help of the sliders some properties can be manipulated on the fly: the size of the stars the number of starlanes and the rotation speed.

By clicking on a star (can be difficult when using small stars or fast rotation) it can be selected. It then appears red and its ID is shown.

By moving the mouse over one of the arrows in the axis image, the stars can be rotated manually.
